Amber Fossils

Young designer Naomi came up with this great way of making fossils using water and food colouring!

Instructions

1] Fill a sandwich bag with water 1/4 full, and add 1 drop of yellow food colouring.

2] Place it in the freezer, you may find it easier to put the bag inside a bowl so that the fossil has a round shape, but be careful not to let it freeze onto the inside of the bowl and get stuck.

3] Wait around 2-3hrs or until your yellow ice is frozen, and put your plastic bug on top, then fill the bag the rest of the way up with water and add another drop of food colouring.

4] Leave it in the freezer overnight or until the ice is completely frozen.

5] Peel/ cut off the bag from the ice so that you are just left with your fossil.

6] If you want to, you can carefully shave off some of the ice to make a rounder shape, but make sure you have adult supervision.

Remember to ask an adult’s permission before using items from the kitchen
