About Us

Creative Briefs was founded in 2015 by Jason Bowers. Jason has always been creative, enjoying ‘hands-on’ subjects at school like woodwork, he worked in a shoe factory as a teenager, and then progressed to setting up his own Interior Design business as a young adult. But it wasn’t until he was 35 years old and training to be a teacher that he was diagnosed as being dyslexic. This diagnosis in adulthood gave Jason clarity as to why his education as a child had been such a struggle. And so, Jason founded Creative Briefs as a way to support dyslexic children, giving them opportunities in design and creativity that he wished he’d been introduced to when he was younger.

Our mission is to harness the power of culture and creativity to transform lives and communities. By equipping neurodiverse children with practical design skills and emotional resilience, we empower them to overcome barriers and contribute meaningfully to their communities and futures.

Our core team includes a diverse group of professionals who bring a wealth of experience and passion to our work. Central to this team is Rebecca Shipham, a professional designer who serves as an industry representative. Rebecca plays a vital role in demonstrating how the skills our children learn with us are directly applied in her career as a designer, offering them a clear and tangible connection between their creative work and real-world applications.

We are also proud to have Josh as our Youth Lead. Josh’s journey with Creative Briefs began as a participant, and through his hard work and dedication, he has grown into a fully-fledged member of our team. His experience embodies the success we strive to achieve with every child who joins our programmes.

Together, our team, which also includes qualified teachers and Arts Award advisors, is committed to making a lasting impact on the lives of the children we serve. By integrating professionals with lived experience of dyslexia and other learning difficulties into our leadership, we ensure that our programmes are both empathetic and effective, truly resonating with those who need them most.

At Creative Briefs, we believe in the power of youth voices to shape and drive our organisation. Through our Junior Design Factory, children not only engage in creative projects but also have the opportunity to grow into Ambassadors. As they progress, these young leaders, like Naomi, Joe, and Tilly, play a vital role in testing and refining our projects. They provide valuable feedback and even design their own workshops, ensuring that our programmes stay relevant and dynamic. This approach allows us to keep the voices and perspectives of young people at the heart of everything we do.
